While Minecraft has already been a popular game played by millions across the globe, new players may seem left out and confused about what the game offers and it’s mechanics. In this guide, you’re going to find out beginner Minecraft tips that will help you progress through the game to catch up to the Minecraft fanatics that have been around for years.

The Beginning

When you load up Minecraft for the first time you’re going to be prompted to select different modes. The ones that you’re going to be mainly looking at for now is Singleplayer and Multiplayer. If you’re a new player you should try out the single-player mode first before jumping in with other players.

After clicking a single player you will be able to create a world and choose the mode, beginners should stick with survival mode as it will give you a basic rundown of the game and develop key skills that you’ll need later.

After you’ve created your world and everything has loaded up, you should become aware of your surroundings. There may be animals, trees, dirt, ponds, etc. Have a look around and figure out your surroundings. Minecraft plays similarly to many other games controls wise, but if you want to fully customize your controls head over to the options button and the controls screen to adjust to your liking.

The First Night

Your first night is important as it’s the first stepping stone for all Minecraft players alike.

The most important item in Minecraft is wood, if you want to progress through the game you’re going to need the wood to craft the essential tools.

Go punch down a tree by holding down the left mouse button. Once the tree has been punched down you’ll collect the wood that has dropped from the tree.

After that press e to go to your inventory and place your wood in the crafting space. Each piece of wood will give you 4 wooden planks. Wooden planks are essential for building structures such as the craft table.

After you have made 4 wooden planks, place the 4 wooden planks once again in your crafting menu, this will enable you to create a crafting table.

Once the crafting table has been placed, right-click it, you’ll notice that you are now able to craft in a 3×3 box instead of 2×2.

Creating Tools

To create tools you need wooden planks and sticks.

To make sticks place two wooden planks vertical from each other this will grant you 4 sticks.

After that you’re going to want to make a pickaxe, that is 3 wooden planks on the top, and 1 wooden stick in the middle of the second and first rows.

Once you have your pickaxe go mining! You’ll be able to mine cobblestone and coal which will be needed for later.

Here are other crafting recipes that you may need,

Shovel – 1 wooden plank in the middle row on the top, 1 stick in the middle of the second, and third-row each.

Sword- 2 wooden planks on rows 1 and 2, and a stick on the third row. Rows 1 being the top row, row 3 being the bottom row.

Axe – 2 wood in the first row, 1 wood 1 stick second row, and 1 stick in the middle of the third row.

Upgrading Tools, Coal, and More!

You’re now able to mine, if you mine a dark rock-like structure you will be gifted with cobblestone. Cobblestone is used to create a furnace that will help you smelt and make other items later on. To make a furnace go to your crafting table and put all cobblestone around, leaving the middle open. Now with a furnace, you can put coal into the furnace to smelt items!

Once you have your furnace go mine some more, you’re able to make cobblestone tools and eventually iron and diamond tools if you happen to come across them.

The First Night

You’re going to want to make torches for your first night which is a single stick and a piece of coal, this will stop monsters from spawning where there is light. On the first night remember to make a stable shelter out of any blocks you have. Survive the first night and fight the monsters with your trusty sword if necessary!

Food Options

The most basic food options are animal products. If you slay any animals you’ll be gifted with raw meat which then you can cook in the furnace with coal.
