Tekken, Soul Calibur, and Mortal Kombat have all been staple fighting games throughout their time in the market. With some titles even reaching e-sport status with huge championships and tournaments held year-round for the best of players. While many players have their preferences with their choice of a fighting game, these three games all share similarities and differences.
Tekken
Tekken made its debut in 1994 with the first Tekken. Tekken is a brawler-like fighting game that hits the nostalgia points of old players. Recently, Tekken 7 has been an extremely popular fighting game that has become the standard in today’s e-sport fighting genre. Tekken isn’t too flashy and keeps the abilities and moves somewhat reasonable. If you’re a fan of the legendary Heihachi or Kazuya or want to experience a brawler light fighting game similar to Street Fighter, you should try out Tekken.
Soul Calibur
If you love traditional warfare and the historical militant style of fighting you should choose Soul Calibur. While it does take a more fantasy approach than Tekken, Soul Calibur has a multitude of different characters from different parts of the world all sporting different fighting styles that you may have seen in the past. Whether it’s a Samurai that has been heavily influenced by Bushido, or a western medieval period character, Soul Calibur has a lot of different options for you if you’re not into brawlers. The use of weapons is heavy in Soul Calibur and should be noted if you enjoy weaponry in fighting games.
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat has always been extremely gruesome, especially with their infamous “Finish Him” K.O. finishers. The gameplay can be extremely gory at times which may be a turn off for some players, but for others, it’s a part of the game not to be missed. Mortal Kombat is extremely fantastical with extreme finishers, and abilities that are out of this world. Certain characters may even deform themselves or have some other supernatural properties that are jaw-dropping at first. Nevertheless, Mortal Kombat has stayed in the market for being one of the greatest and most gory fighting games of all time.
