2020 has been an interesting year (to say the least), with new releases and innovations in the gaming world that have shaken the genre and space as a whole. While many of us are stuck at home, some of the most interesting and intriguing titles have either been released or been announced. Here are some of the most exciting games in 2020.
Valorant
Riot’s new FPS shooter was released officially on June 2nd. Millions of players were amped up, ready and waiting for a new shooter to shine. The beta broke milestones, and gave competitive FPS players a breath of fresh air.
Valorant takes inspiration from some of the greatest shooters of this decade, including the famous Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch. Valorant has already begun creating a professional competitive scene, where players go at each other reaching the top of the Valorant competitive world. The hype surrounding this game was immense and had players of all genres tying it out. If you’re not already on the Valorant train you should give it a try, it’s always nice to have a new play on the competitive FPS scene.
The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II was mildly spoiled by frivolous tweets and other informational news sources. However, that doesn’t take away the legacy that The Last of Us Part I created. The storyline is expected to be heart-wrenching, a twister that will leave fans on the edge of their seat. The great visuals combined with the engaging storyline, made The Last of Us Part I one of the greatest action-adventure games of that year. The Last of Us Part II hopes to achieve the same level of engagement and is most definitely on my watchlist.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
You might be thinking, how could a harmless game like Animal Crossing be labeled as one of the most exciting games of 2020? After all, it’s just a chore simulator, right? Not exactly. Animal Crossing took the world by storm as integration on the Nintendo Switch allowed it to become a social hub for people cooped up at home. In Animal Crossing you can do a whole bunch of different activities like creating a perfect island, breeding flowers, and even playing the saxophone. You’re able to interact with your villagers in a multitude of ways! Animal Crossing cemented itself as a great social hub for those stuck at home wanting a bit of social interaction.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Valhalla is the next installment of the Assassin’s Creed series. Releasing this December, Valhalla is going to change up the pace of the Assassin’s Creed series by introducing a Nordic Viking styled character to the mix. This game is also releasing on the next-generation consoles, making it the first on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The trailer seems promising, with stunning visuals and a hint at hidden blade combat. Valhalla is going to be a new twist on a fan favorite that we’re already familiar with.
